4th February 2012 - Badminton England U15/U17 Bronze Tournament (Nottinghamshire)
Eight of our members , Jenny Morley, Sarah Boyce, Edd Thompson, Fran Baisley, Ant Mullen, Adam Mullen, Heather Walker and Rachel Cutts, played in the U15/U17 bronze tournaments in Nottinghamshire. In the U17 tournament Jenny was runner-up in the Girls' Doubles and in the U15 tournament Rachel and Heather won the Girls' Doubles. Congratulations!
28th January 2012 - Big Session Mini-Tournament
A massive 58 members took part in our first mini-tournament of 2012. Players were in mixed ability teams of six or seven and played against four other teams. The winners were Alex Hughes(captain), Chloe Jordan, Gemma Lannon, Devang Nigam, Michael Penn, Dan O'Malley(not pictured) and Hope Summers(not pictured). The session ended with the biggest-ever game of Runaround. A great morning!
15th January 2012 - North Midway Badminton League
Two of our players, Eleanor Collins and Ella Fairchild, represented Notts in the Primary School round of the North Midway Badminton League. Notts won - well done, girls!
17th December 2011 - Christmas Big Session Mini-Tournament
42 members took part in our Christmas Mini-Tournament. Players were in mixed-ability teams and played a number of singles matches to gain points for their team. The more-able and older players received forfeits/handicaps when playing against younger or less-experienced players. The winning team was Holly Clarke (captain), Jenny Morley, Izzy Geffryes, Lucas Eden and James Clisset-Mann. (See the gallery for more pictures).
10th December 2011 - Badminton England U15 Bronze Tournament (West Midlands)
One of our members , Ant Mullen, played in the U15 bronze tournament in Birmingham. He won the final of the boys' doubles with his partner from Mansfield, receiving a gold medal. Ant also won his group in the boys' singles but was knocked out in a close quarter-final match. Congratulations!

3rd/4th December 2011 - Two leagues won already!!
SJBC played four matches this weekend - won 2, lost 2. The exciting news, however, is that the two matches which we won were the final matches in those particular leagues and so we are league winners in Year 7 & 8 Mixed and Year 9 & 10 Girls. Congratulations to those teams!
27th November 2011 - Dronfield Junior Open Tournament
Four of our members entered the Dronfield Junior Open Tournament on 27th November. Adam Mullen won the Year 7&8 Boys' Singles and Emma Hooper and Eleanor Collins were runners up in the Year 6&under Girls' Doubles. Ethan Kearsley entered the Year 6&under Boys' Singles and won some really tough games. Well done to all!
12th November 2011 - Big Session Mini-tournament
Another Big Session took place on Saturday 12th November. In a change of format, players competed in singles matches against others of similar ability to accumulate points for their team. Each team consisted of players with mixed ages and abilities. The winning team was Edd Thompson (captain), Isabel Geffryes, Maisie Cutts, Gemma Lannon, Devang Nigam and Jacob Adams.

12th November 2011 - Nottinghamshire Junior Badminton Association Restricted Singles Tournament
30th October 2011 - U13 Shires League
Two of our members, Dan Whaley and Sophie Morley represented Notts for the first time in the main National League competition. Notts won 14-6. Well done, Dan and Sophie.
15/16th October 2011 - First League Fixtures of the Season
What an exciting first weekend of the season we had, winning 3 of our 4 matches. On Saturday, the Year 7&8 Girls won 10-0 and the Year 7&8 Boys lost 7-3 against Chilwell away. On Sunday we played Sunrise at home; the Year 7&8 Mixed team won 8-2 and in a nail-biter the Year 11&12 Mixed team drew 5-5 but won on points. Well done to everyone involved.
8th October 2011 - Big Session Mini-tournament
The first Big Session of the 2011-12 season took place on Saturday 8th October. The Big Sessions give our younger members an opportunity to play with older and more accomplished players; they also give our older members the chance to lead a team of mixed ages and abilities. The winning team was Holly Clarke, Jarrod Gretton, Ethan Kearsley, Jacob Adams, Finn Durkin and Edd Thompson (not pictured).
2nd October 2011 - Nottinghamshire Schools Badminton Association Restricted Finals
Probably SJBC's best ever year at the restricted finals. The afternoon began with Dan Whaley and Sophie Morley receiving silver medals in the U13 Boys' and Girls' Doubles. Then Rachel Cutts and Heather Walker won the Girls' U15 doubles with Heather receiving the gold medal in the Mixed Doubles soon afterwards. After a long wait, Jenny Morley received a silver medal in the U17 Girls' Doubles.
The medals were presented by Notts and England player, Chris Adcock. Congratulations to everyone.
18th September 2011 - Nottinghamshire Schools Badminton Association U15 Restricted Tournament
Five of our members, Ant Mullen, Rachel Cutts, Fran Baisley, Adam Mullen and Heather Walker entered the U15 restricted tournament
. Rachel and Heather are through to the Girls' Doubles final which will be played on 2nd October. In the plate competitions, Heather won the Girls' Singles, Adam was runner up in the Boys' Singles and Rachel and Ant were runners up in the Mixed Doubles. Heather's medal was presented by Peter Herrity, U17&U15 coach.

17th September 2011 - Nottinghamshire Schools Badminton Association U13 Restricted Tournament
Six of our members, Dan Whaley, Sophie Morley, Eleanor Collins, Devang Nigam, Emma Hooper and Holly Hodges, entered the U13 restricted tournament. Dan Whaley and Sophie Morley and their partners made it through to the Boys' and Girls' doubles finals which will be played on 2nd October. Eleanor Collins was runner up in the Girls' Singles Plate and Dan and Eleanor won the Mixed Plate. Well done to all!
17th September 2011 Nottinghamshire Schools Badminton Association U17 Restricted Tournament
Four of our members, Edd Thompson, Jenny Morley, Ant Mullen and Rachel Cutts, entered the U17 restricted tournament.
Jenny and her partner are through to the Girls' Doubles final which will be played on 2nd October. Rachel was runner up in the Girls' Singles Plate.

Two of our members , Heather Walker and Rachel Cutts, played in the U15 bronze tournament in Derbyshire. They reached the final of the girls' doubles, receiving a silver medal. Rachel also won her group in the girls' singles but was knocked out in a close quarter-final match. Congratulations to both girls!
27th August 2011 - Badminton England Masterclass
Five of our members, Daniel Whaley, Ethan Kearsley, Heather Walker, Rachel and Maisie Cutts took part in a Masterclass with Gail Emms and Nathan Robertson at the University of Loughborough Badminton Centre. They all played singles against Gail and doubles against Nathan and then did a fitness session with Gail and Nathan's coach, Andy Allford. All the players really enjoyed the day and there was a photo opportunity at the end.
9th July 2011 - Bradford Kobras Handicapped Singles and Doubles Tournament
2 of our members, Adam Mullen and Heather Walker entered and won the Bradford Kobras U12 Doubles Tournament. Well done!!

28th May 2011 - Big Session Mini-Tournament
30 members took part in the final 'Big Session Mini-Tournament' of the 2010/11 season. Players were in mixed-ability teams of three/four and played against three other teams.
The winners were :- David Todd(captain), Matt Groves, Jarrod Gretton and Maisie Cutts.
13th May 2011 - Nottinghamshire Badminton Association Presentation Evening
Ten of our players and their families and coach Alex Fenton attended the Notts BA Presentation Evening. The event was attended by 250 people and started with a buffet, followed by the awards ceremony and then a disco. Heather Walker, Sophie Morley and Maisie Cutts accepted the trophy on behalf of the Southwell Under 13 Girls Team having won their league and Matt Groves, Robin Blackwell, Edd Thompson, Callum Andrew, Jenny Morley and Sarah Boyce collected the Under 17 League trophy. The trophies were presented by Nottinghamshire and England player, Chris Adcock.
8th May 2011 - Bottesford Tournament
Eleven of our members entered the annual Bottesford Tournament. Daniel Whaley, Sam Brakewell and Ethan Kearsley entered the U12 boys' singles and doubles competition, with Daniel and Sam coming Runners-Up in the doubles. Maisie Cutts, Sophie Morley and Eleanor Collins entered the U12 girls' singles and doubles, with Maisie winning the singles and Maisie and Sophie together winning the doubles. Callum Andrew and Edd Thompson were Runners-Up in the U16 boys' doubles and Matt Groves and Robin Blackwell were Runners-Up in the U18 boys' doubles. Sarah Boyce won the U18 girls' singles and doubles playing with a partner from the Carlton club.
17th April 2011 - Newark Tournament
Three of our members, Jenny Morley, Robin Blackwell and Rachel Cutts and two of our coaches, Alex Fenton and Greg Eden represented the Southwell Centre Badminton Club in a local doubles tournament. The tournament involved seven teams, each consisting of 3 men and 3 women. Despite heavy handicapping, the two Southwell teams came first and second. An enjoyable day and an excellent experience for the juniors.
9th April 2011 - SJBC Annual Tournament
Forty-six of our members played in our Annual Singles Tournament, with some predictable results and some surprise winners. Full details and photos are on the dedicated page of our website. Midway through the morning we were treated to a men's doubles demonstration featuring our coaches, Michael and Greg vs Alex and Kevin. The young ones beat the old ones!
26/27th March 2011 - Attewell Tournament
Thirteen of our members entered the Attewell Tournament held at the Bingham Leisure Centre. We had many successes and all players gained valuable experience :
U11 - Lucas Eden, Ethen Kearsley, Dan O'Malley, Eleanor Collins and Charlotte Flavell all played in their first tournament.
U13 - Daniel Whaley and Oliver Shelvey entered the boys singles and doubles, with Oliver reaching the semi-final of the singles and Dan reaching the final of the doubles. Lucy Harriss and Sophie Morley played against each other in the girls singles final with Sophie winning and Lucy as runner up. They then played together and won the girls doubles. Lucy was also runner up in the mixed doubles.
U15 - Holly Prentice and Jo Thompson played in their first tournament.
U17 - Sarah Boyce played in the girls singles and doubles winning both events. Edd Thompson reached the semi-final of the boys singles. They played together in the mixed doubles and were runners up.
12th March 2011 - Big Session
43 members took part in our March Big Session. In a change of format, players were divided into 4 mixed ability teams and competed in a variety of fitness and dance based activities. The team captained by Edd Thompson won.
7th February 2011 - National Inter-Schools Badminton Competition - Years 7-9
Eight of our members, Matt Steels, Ant Mullen, Chris Gretton, Adam Mullen, Heather Walker, Holly Clarke, Fran Baisley and Rachel Cutts, played for the Minster School in the County round of the National Inter-Schools tournament, competing against seven other schools from across the County. The girls team were runners up following a tough match against the Brunts School, Mansfield and the boys came third behind the Elizabethan School, Retford.
29th January 2011 - Big Session Mini-Tournament
47 members took part in our first mini-tournament of 2011. As usual, players were in mixed ability teams of five or six and played against four other teams. The winners were Sarah Boyce (captain), Holly Prentice, Sam Brakewell, Kyla Wheldon and Behram Khan.
15th January 2011 - Badminton England U13 Bronze Tournament (Derbyshire)
One of our members , Adam Mullen, played in the U13 bronze tournament in Derbyshire. He reached the final of the singles, receiving a runners-up medal and the semi-final of the doubles with his partner Aaron Curry from Mansfield. Congratulations, Adam!

21st November 2010 - Under 14 North Midway
Two of our members, Rachel Cutts and Ant Mullen, represented Notts in this friendly inter-county competition against eight other counties. They played well in both singles and doubles. Notts finished in 6th place.
7th November 2010 - Under 12 North Midway
Two of our members, Sophie Morley and Daniel Whaley, represented Notts in this friendly inter-county competition against seven other counties. They played well in both singles and doubles.

16th October 2010 - Nottinghamshire Junior Badminton Association Restricted Singles Tournament
Sarah Boyce won gold in the U17 category, Heather Walker won gold at U13 and Eleanor Collins won silver at U11.
Edd Thompson (U17), Ant Mullen (U15) and Dan Whaley (U13) all won three of their four matches so narrowly missed going through into the knock-out stages.
Congratuations to all for representing Southwell so well!
16th October 2010 - Leicester U12 Invitation Doubles
One of our members, Adam Mullen, represented Nottinghamshire against seven other counties in the Leicester U12 Invitation Doubles with a partner from the Mansfield club. They won five of their games against Hampshire, Yorkshire, Suffolk, Warwickshire and Leicestershire, only losing to strong teams from Surrey and Derbyshire. Well done, Adam!
9th October 2010 - Badminton England U13 Bronze Tournament (Nottinghamhire)
Three of our members, Adam Mullen, Heather Walker and Daniel Whaley, entered their first Badminton England U13 tournament, which was both challenging and enjoyable. Heather got a silver medal in the girls’ doubles.
26th September 2010 - Nottinghamshire Schools Badminton Association Restricted Tournament Finals
One of our members, Heather Walker, played in the final of the U13 Singles, Girls' Doubles and Mixed Doubles and won all three finals.

25th September 2010 - Big Session Mini-Tournament
37 members took part in our first 'Big Session Mini-Tournament'. Players were in mixed-ability teams of four and played against four other teams.
The winners were :- John Scott (captain) Nick Scott, Tom Smith and Lucas Eden.
18th/19th September 2010 - Nottinghamshire Schools Badminton Association Restricted Tournament
Eight members played in the Nottinghamshire Schools Badminton Association Restricted Tournament at Ravenshead and Chilwell.
Heather Walker, Adam Mullen, Daniel Whaley and Sophie Morley played in the Under 13 Singles and Doubles, with Heather Walker through to the Finals in Singles, Doubles and Mixed (yet to be played), Adam Mullen winning the Mixed Doubles Plate with his partner and Dan Whaley reaching the Boys Singles Plate Final.
Ant Mullen, Fran Baisley and Rachel Cutts played in the Under 15 Singles and Doubles; Ant and Rachel won their groups in the Singles Competitions with Ant getting through to the quarter-finals and Rachel to the semi-finals. Rachel and Fran together reached the final of the Girls Doubles Plate Competition but lost narrowly in a tough battle.
Jenny Morley played in the Under 17 Singles, winning her first match but then losing to a 'Gold' player.
9th May 2010 - Bottesford Tournament
Twelve of our members entered the annual Bottesford Tournament. Ethan Kearsley, Adam Mullen, Oliver Shelvey, Heather Walker, Sophie Morley and Maisie Cutts played in the Under 12 singles and doubles, with Sophie and Maisie getting a Runners Up Medal in the girls doubles. Ant Mullen played in the Under 14 singles and doubles and received a Runners Up Medal in both events. Jenny Morley, Sarah Boyce, Matt Groves, Robin Blackwell and Edd Thompson played in the Under 16 singles and doubles, with Jenny and Sarah winning the girls doubles, Matt winning the boys singles with Robin runner up and then, Matt and Robin together getting a Runners Up Medal in the boys doubles.

24th/25th April 2010 - The Attewell Tournament
Fourteen of our members entered the annual Attewell Tournament at Bingham Leisure Centre. Everyone that entered won at least one match and gained valuable experience. Results highlights :-
- U11s Maisie Cutts and Sophie Morley came 3rd in the girls doubles, missing out on a place in the final on points.
- U13s Matt Steels and Ant Mullen reached the semi-finals of the boys singles.
Heather Walker just missed out on a semi-final place in the girls singles on points.
- U15s Sarah Boyce won the U15 girls singles with Jenny Morley runner up.
Jenny Morley and Sarah Boyce won the girls doubles.
Ed Thompson and Sarah Boyce were runners up in the mixed doubles.

18th April 2010 - SJBC Under 15 Girls win the league!
Southwell Under 15 Girls played their final league match of the season and won, making them league champions 2009/10.
20th March 2010 - Southwell Junior Badminton Club Annual Restricted Tournament
Forty seven of our members (the most ever, we think) played in our annual tournament on Saturday. Two trophies were retained by previous winners but the remaining six went to first time winners. Please see the Annual Tournament page of the website for the full details. Players and parents were treated to a demonstration of high class badminton by ex SJBC member and England International, Peter Mills.
6th March 2010 - Badminton England U13 Bronze Tournament
Two of our members, Ant Mullen and Rachel Cutts, entered the East Staffordshire Badminton England tournament. The competition was challenging and provided good experience for both players.
28th February 2010 - SJBC Under 11s win the league!
Southwell Under 11s played their final league match of the season and
won making them league champions 2009/10.

The boys team reached the final and were beaten by the team from the Elizabethan School, Retford. The girls too were runners up following a tough match against the Brunts School, Mansfield.

The boys team reached the final and were beaten by the team from Nottingham High School. The girls too were runners up to Nottingham High School in the group stage of the competition.
24th January 2010 - North Midway Badminton League Primary Tournament
Three of our members, Daniel Whaley, Adam Mullen and Heather Walker represented Nottinghamshire against 8 other counties in the North Midway tournament. The tournament provided plenty of challenging games and a great first experience of representing Notts.
23rd January 2010 - Badminton England U13 Bronze Tournament
Two of our members, Ant Mullen and Rachel Cutts, entered the Derbyshire Badminton England tournament. The competition was challenging and provided good experience for both players.
16th January 2010 - Nottinghamshire Schools Badminton Association Restricted Tournament
One of our members, Rachel Cutts, played in the postponed final of the Under 13 Mixed Doubles competition. Rachel and her partner lost in a very tense and nervy match and received the Runners Up trophy.
8th December 2009 - National Inter-Schools Badminton Competition - Years 7-9

14th November 2009 – Children In Need
38 members joined in our annual ‘big session’ for ‘Children In Need’. There was plenty of fun and games as well as an opportunity for our younger members to see the older members play. £102 was collected for Children in Need..

7th November 2009 – Grantham Yelex tournament
Three of our members, Jade White, Katie Whiteman and Alex Hughes, entered the Grantham Yelex Tournament. Jade won the girls U17 girls and Katie came third.

28th February 2009 – Masterclass with Gail and Nathan
Three of our members, Kate Fenton, Fran Baisley and Rachel Cutts, took part in a ‘masterclass’ with Gail Emms and Nathan Robertson, mixed doubles silver medal winners at the 2004 Olympics. The sessions were challenging and fun. Afterwards they had a photo opportunity with Gail and Nathan and their medals!
